Michigan Community Mental Health Resources
1) Find community mental health clinics by location by using the Michigan.gov website tools.
2) Find MI Medicaid covered mental health including substance use treatment offerings via SAMHSA's website. This page also has a link reviewing how to sign up for MI Medicaid.
3) Find MI mental health crisis resources here. This includes suicide hotline (988), MiCAL, peer warmlines, and more.
How do I find a mental health counselor or therapist?
1) Ask your medical care team for a personal referral. (Referrals might come from any discipline, but commonly come from primary care, OB/GYN, and psychiatry.)
2) Search on-line at reputable sites like psychologytoday.com, a website where you can filter by location, virtual visit options, accepted insurances, therapy type, diagnosis or symptom type, among other filters.
3) Call the customer service phone number on the back of your insurance card and ask for a list of covered mental health counselors.
4) Check our organization resource lists, like the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) or Post-Partum Support International (PSI).
What if I need to be hospitalized while pregnant or soon after pregnancy completion?
1) Go to the nearest ER. If they do not have services to fit your needs they will transfer you appropriately.
2) Auburn Hills, MI area: Consider Havenwyck Mental Health Hospital evaluation.
3) Grand Rapids, MI area: Consider Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services. (Not required to be of the Christian Faith to participate in care at Pine Rest.)
4) Corewell Health Psychiatry Services: various locations/services offered.
5) University of Michigan Psychiatric Services, including psychiatric emergency evaluation.
